Ullscarf - 2
Wednesday, 21st September
Have had amazing day and am now buzzing with self-confidence. Arose at specified ungodly hour and drove child along motorway and country lanes to school. Found tea shop open in village at eight-thirty in the morning (no mean feat) and enjoyed relaxing cup of tea in courtyard. Drove back to Keswick but did not stop - no - but drove straight on to Thirlmere. Have now been driving for over two hours and am getting tired.
Re-did walk from last week and found Ullscarf! It was difficult to tell which, amongst the various piles of rock was the summit so I simply followed the ruined fence-posts until the land started going down. I had some help in that I could follow the line of surrounding fells: Glaramara, Allen Crags, Gable, Chocolate Bun, Lining Crag and High White's.
Had to laugh on returning home when reading Wainwright's description of fell-top where he describes the worn-out fence posts as pretty useless for anything other than assisting walkers to find their way to the summit without which, he admits, "would be in some doubt!"
PS: There is a story relating to: Chocolate Bun - a fell to which I feel a special affection. Will explain after I have climbed it.
